Who is God?

Who is this God? What is His Nature? What is His Name? How can I know Him? Does He even want to know me? What if I’ve violated too much? What if I’ve strayed too far? You say He yearns to know me. Surely, He has NO desire to know me. Me??? With all my faults… With all my failures… With all my emptiness…

My hands have blood on them. My heart is full of deceit. My eyes have seen evil. My future seems full of despair. Can He really forgive me? And, if He can, how can I know for sure that He has? I accomplish great feats. I amass significant personal and public achievements. However, I still can’t seem to take hold of that (Him) who has taken hold of me.

My Lord, My God, help me, now! My heart aches with these questions. My soul longs to be with You. But how can I? I’m so unlike you!

Do you really want to have relationship with me? Can you really restore me? Is there really a plan for my life?

The answer is YES!

This God can and He will! How? We don’t know, exactly. In fact, we don’t even understand why He would want to. One thing, however, we are certain about and that is that this God has the capacity to love the unlovable! We (you and I) only have to do one thing. Ask. Right now! And, He will be more than happy to oblige us.

So, who is God? Actually, it’s impossible to “remotely” understand the Nature of God, much less “fully understand” Him or know His Nature.

We do know this, however.

  • He is full of mercy.
  • He is full of grace.
  • He is full of second chances.
  • He is love.

Who is like unto Him?

David is his complete AWE of this God writes:

1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
2 for he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the waters.
3 Who may ascend the hill of the LORD?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false.

(But, wait, I don’t have clean hands and a pure heart. Does that mean I’m not able to stand in His holy place? Yes, that’s exactly what it means. However, through the shed blood of his Son (“Yeshua Hamashiach”–Hebrew for Jesus) you and I can stand in His holy place (but only “under the blood” of the 2nd Adam).

5 He will receive blessing from the LORD
and vindication from God his Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, O God of Jacob.
Selah

7 Lift up your heads, O you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The LORD strong and mighty,
the LORD mighty in battle.

9 Lift up your heads, O you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
The LORD Almighty—
he is the King of glory.
Selah

(Psalm 24: 1-10)

God’s nature is to love YOU. His nature is to be kind, gentle and intentional in moving YOU towards a deeper walk with Him. He is King! Yes, He is the King of Glory and, yet, He desires to know YOU. How do you begin knowing Him? Just start. In other words, JUST DO IT! Say a simple prayer asking Him to be your friend and to teach you how to be His. Remember, He came for ONE specific purpose. And, that is to KNOW and to LOVE YOU. Won’t you take a minute out of your busy day/ life? Won’t you take a minute out of the hustle & bustle of taking care of the domestic responsibilities of life? And, say to Him, “Lord, come into my heart. Rule and reign in my thoughts. Be Lord of my life!
I know you’re HERE because I feel your presence (right here, right now, right next to me). Help me to remember this as I embark upon and CONTINUE this walk that is (for me) a new beginning!”
